Piopiotahi Milford Sound Tourism Celebration – Friday 22 May 2026
We warmly invite you to join us for a special celebration on Friday, 22 May, as we welcome Kāi Tahu as the third equal shareholder of Milford Sound Tourism Ltd.
Programme
7:00 am | Coach departs Te Anau; independent travellers make their own way to Piopiotahi Milford Sound.
9:30 – 10:30 am | Whakatau, karakia, and acknowledgements at the Visitor Terminal, followed by morning tea.
11:00 am – 12:30 pm | Boat cruise and lunch.
1:00 pm | Coach departs Milford Sound Visitor Terminal for Te Anau.
What to bring
At Piopiotahi Milford Sound, there’s no such thing as bad weather – just the right gear!
May can bring higher rainfall, and conditions are often cool and changeable, so we recommend dressing warmly and bringing a beanie and a waterproof jacket or outer layer.
Comfortable footwear is also encouraged, particularly for moving between the terminal, coach, and cruise vessel.
We encourage you to check out our top tips on how to prepare for your visit.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, please be aware of potential hazards in the area and come prepared. You will be entering Fiordland National Park – a remote and spectacular environment – so we also ask that you play your part in helping to protect this pristine wilderness and uphold New Zealand’s Tiaki Promise.
Transport arrangements
You are welcome to make your own way to Piopiotahi Milford Sound; however, coach transport will also be available.
If travelling independently, please allow sufficient time for the journey and read through the travel tips in advance. The 120km drive from Te Anau to Piopiotahi takes approximately two hours in good conditions, but we recommend allowing extra time for stops and variable weather.
Please ensure you fuel up before departing Te Anau, as there are no petrol stations along the route.
We also recommend checking the latest weather forecasts, Milford Road status updates, and the Milford Sound webcam before setting out.
RSVP
To assist us with attendance numbers, dietary requirements, and transport arrangements, please RSVP by 5:00pm, Monday, 11 May, using the form below.
